Motivation Behind Maweshi Mandi
Pakistan is mainly an agriculture country. It is endowed with a large livestock population. It is an important sub-sector of agriculture and assume a pivotal position in the whole economy strategy of Pakistan. Besides, being a source of milk, meat, eggs, hides and skins, livestock provides draught power for agricultural operations and industrial raw materials. The country also earn sizable amount of foreign exchange from the export of various livestock products. Pakistan is predominantly an agricultural country with land areas of 79.61 million hectares and bordering four important countries from the three sides. Geographically, Pakistan presents large scenario of great variations in topography, climate natural vegetation and resources, human and animal population. Livestock also serves the mankind in several ways. They contribute a considerable amount to our daily protein requirements in the form of milk and meat.
The trade of livestock is an important aspect of livestock industry. An agriculturist needs to buy or sell his animals very often. The whole trade of ruminants is manual. A buyer or seller has to visit livestock markets to compare animals and get the information of current market rates. Since there is no proper setup of setting standard rates so at different mandis one has to face different types of rates. Especially, during Eid ul Azha season, the sellers set very high rates of their animals. During those days, a good animal search with a standard marker rate is quite hectic. This manual system is in dire need of IT intervention.
To resolve such issues, we are planning to take an initiative and introduce an online market place. We have already worked for a smart automatic disease diagnostic system for livestock . After the successful implementation of Maweshi Paal, we have decided to automate the mandi of livestock. Currently, We are at the initial stage of research for the development of online maweshi mandi.
